We are looking for a capable resource to coordinate, ranging from simple activities to more complex plans.

Project Overview

The Field Network Engineer will be responsible for supporting the network switch refresh project across manufacturing facilities in Paris. The role involves hardware verification, site readiness assessment, equipment installation, migration support, cable management, and decommissioning of End-of-Support-Life (EOSL) network switches while coordinating closely with the remote technical team.

Key Responsibilities

1. Bill of Materials (BOM) Verification

  • Verify all delivered equipment against the approved Bill of Materials (BOM).
  • Inspect hardware for physical damage and ensure all components are received in good condition.
  • Report missing, damaged, or incorrect items immediately to the Project Management Team.
  • Complete all mandatory site safety and compliance training before accessing manufacturing facilities.

2. Site Survey & Device Staging

  • Conduct a detailed site survey to verify:
    • Rack space availability
    • Power availability
    • Environmental and cooling conditions
  • Power on all network devices and establish connectivity.
  • Provide remote access to the technical team for:
    • Initial device configuration
    • IOS/software upgrades
  • Ensure all devices are fully staged and deployment-ready according to project standards.

3. Rack & Stack Installation

  • Install and securely mount network switches in designated racks.
  • Follow customer standards, manufacturer guidelines, and site safety procedures.
  • Verify proper rack placement, grounding, and power connections.

4. Migration Support

  • Perform cable migration from existing switches to new switches under the guidance of the remote technical team.
  • Verify all cable connections are secure and correctly terminated.
  • Label all network and power cables according to project standards.
  • Maintain clean and organized cable management throughout the installation.
  • Execute migration activities primarily during off-business hours, maintenance windows, and weekends to minimize operational impact.
  • Work collaboratively with remote engineers during cutover and assist in troubleshooting any migration issues.

5. Decommissioning

  • Provide console access to the remote technical team for controlled shutdown of legacy EOSL switches.
  • Disconnect power and network cabling after migration approval.
  • Remove legacy switches from racks safely.
  • Prepare decommissioned equipment for storage or disposal as instructed by the customer.
  • Ensure the work area is left clean and compliant with site standards.

Deliverables

  • Verified BOM and delivery report.
  • Completed site survey checklist.
  • Successfully staged and upgraded network switches.
  • Rack-mounted and powered network equipment.
  • Completed cable migration with proper labeling and cable management.
  • Successful migration support with minimal service disruption.
  • Safe decommissioning and removal of legacy EOSL switches.
  • Daily progress updates and completion documentation.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Flexibility to work evenings, nights, weekends, and maintenance windows.
  • Experience with enterprise network switch installation and migration.
  • Hands-on experience with rack & stack activities.
  • Understanding of structured cabling and cable management best practices.
  • Familiarity with console access, switch boot-up, and basic network troubleshooting.
  • Ability to work with remote engineering teams during implementation.
  • Strong documentation and reporting skills.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety standards within manufacturing environments.
