We are looking for a capable resource to coordinate, ranging from simple activities to more complex plans. This role will provide on-site/ on-call assistance to end-users within the organisation’s desktop computing environment in a timely and accurate fashion to ensure optimal service delivery.

Job Description:

The Essential 8 Project Engineer will be responsible for assessing, implementing, and managing cybersecurity controls in alignment with the Australian Cyber Security Centre’s (ACSC) Essential Eight Maturity Model. The role involves evaluating existing systems, remediating gaps, and ensuring compliance across infrastructure, endpoints, and applications.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct detailed assessments of the organization’s current cybersecurity posture against the ACSC Essential 8 framework.
• Develop and implement technical controls for all eight mitigation strategies:
  1. Application Control
  2. Patch Applications
  3. Configure Microsoft Office Macro Settings
  4. User Application Hardening
  5. Restrict Administrative Privileges
  6. Patch Operating Systems
  7. Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
  8. Regular Backups
• Work with internal IT and security teams to design and deploy technical solutions that raise maturity levels.
• Prepare remediation plans and manage timelines for achieving compliance.
• Create documentation, reports, and progress updates for stakeholders and auditors.
• Provide training and guidance to technical staff on Essential 8 requirements and best practices.
• Collaborate with vendors and third parties to validate security configurations and controls.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Strong understanding of cybersecurity frameworks (Essential 8, ISO 27001, NIST CSF).
• Experience with endpoint management and security tools such as Intune, SCCM, CrowdStrike, or similar.
• Familiarity with Active Directory, Group Policy, and Windows Server environments.
• Hands-on experience implementing MFA, patch management, and application control policies.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CompTIA Security+, Microsoft Security certifications, or ASD Essential 8 Assessor preferred.

Desirable:

• Experience working in government or regulated sectors.
• Knowledge of vulnerability management and SIEM tools (Splunk, Sentinel, etc.).
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
